Geopark - History

In Spring in 2002 decided the Regionalverband Harz e.V. and the Freilicht- und Erlebnismuseum Ostfalen e.V. the common construction of the Geopark Harz – Braunschweiger Land – Ostfalen. After the RVH had produced the essential construction achievements in the area Harz and the FEMO developed the remaining areas, both partners founded the Geopark Harz – Braunschweiger Land – Ostfalen GbR.
The GbR is responsible for the common Geopark and a member of the European Geopark Network. On the 11th February 2005 from the responsible devision of the UNESCO in Paris issued document confirms the membership of the Geopark Harz – Braunschweiger Land – Ostfalen in the worldwide Network of Geoparks.
This high recognition has a time limit and is checked in 2013 again.
After the arrangement of the 17 landmarks of the Geopark Harz – Braunschweiger Land – Ostfalen in the area of the Harz follows the construction of a network of information centres.
